Daily Prompt: Sheep

From The Grey House:

“What does he farm?”

“Humans. And sheep.”

Natalia gave him a look. “For food?”

“Yep. Good cash crop and occasionally, the farmers herd the sheep out where we can get them. Doesn’t happen much as that would kill the crop. Every two weeks, 20 humans from the farms cycle through the house.”

“The vampires farm the humans; the humans farm the sheep and you chase fresh meat every once in a while.”

Daily Prompt: Forward

From The Grey House:

As she raised the gun to him, Dean lurched forward. He grabbed madly at the gun, hoping to get it out of her hands. By sheer miracle, he pulled it away from her. He took a step back, and they started at each other. She scowled, and Dean lurched forward again. He brought the stock of the gun down on Judith’s head. He was taller than her and it worked. She grunted and fell to the roof. Without hesitating, Dean ran for the rooftop door. In a moment, he was on the third floor. He slipped into an apartment he and Judith had acquired an hour ago.

Daily Prompt: Catch

From The Grey House:

It wasn’t hard to find her; she was returning to the house. The scent of blood was all about her. She had probably caught and eaten a rabbit. They were rampant in these mountains but challenging to catch. He greeted her playfully, allowed her to show her dominance over him then licked her jaw where she had missed a spot of blood. She let him up and instinct almost took over. The buzzing in his head stopped him from running off to find a hare of his own. He stopped and howled at his alpha. She stopped, and cocked her shaggy gray head at her mate, wondering at his game. He concentrated then turned back into a human. Charlie shifted uncomfortably on the rocky ground and waited.

Daily Prompt: Hot

From The Grey House:

Vincent watched as reality hit the human. His happy grin slowly fell into an open-mouthed scream. Aaron tried to escape, but Vincent had him in a vice grip. One hand was holding Aaron’s shoulder; the other was on his opposite arm. Aaron struggled anyway and, in his fear, succeeded in pulling his arm out of the socket. His fearful scream turned into a howl of pain. Vincent slowly pulled the man toward him, embracing him again. This time, though, he ripped Aaron’s shirt off his shoulder, opened his mouth wide, revealed his fangs and bit into the human’s shoulder. He drank deep and long, tasting the sweet saltiness as the hot blood filled his mouth, throat and his stomach. He drank his fill then let the man fall.

Daily Prompt: Employee

From The Grey House:

Rebecca was drinking a bad cup of coffee, wishing the safe house were across the street from a good coffee shop. She had been in worse surveillance situations though and shut her mind to the chatter. She watched Natalia out of the corner of her eye, wondering how she was going to get the homing device on the woman. It was a small device, designed to look like a quarter. It was marred on one side, as if someone had scratched up the backside. Rebecca was now twirling it slowly between her fingers, considering her options.

She thought that maybe the safe house was empty because it wasn’t the safe house. There was the possibility that The Hook Up was the actual meeting place. It was not a good idea, tactically, to have a safe house across the street from a twenty-four-hour establishment. Rebecca figured that someone here, either an employee or customer, was the point of contact. She wanted to figure out whom but didn’t want to look too suspicious. She was already quite conspicuous sitting in an Internet café without a computer. The public computers were by the wall, which was not a convenient place to watch her quarry. Therefore, she sat and looked at her watch, looking like she was waiting for friends.

Daily Prompt: Sniff

From The Grey House:

Vincent peered down the beach, trying to see what the screens could not catch, but there was still no sign of her. He made himself comfortable, looked down the beach, and waited for her to arrive. A minute later he picked up her backpack. Inside the main pocket was clothing, a notebook with a pen in the spiral, and a hand towel wrapped around a sheathed knife. Frowning, Vincent unsheathed the knife. It was a hunting dagger, quite sharp, too. Vincent brought the blade to his nose and sniffed. He turned his head away; she probably cleaned the blade with garlic infused oil. Not a half bad idea.

Daily Prompt: Birthday

Today is my birthday, therefore the word of the day is birthday.

From The Grey House:

“I wanted to meet the most powerful vampire in the city. Slayers and vampires told me that I could find him here. Then, I heard there was going to be a huge party to celebrate the Captain’s birthday.” She shrugged as the lie spilled from her lips. “I decided to crash the party and meet the Captain and was disappointed to find out that the most powerful vampire and the Captain were not the same person. I started to ask your guests why the two weren’t the same. Do you want to know what your guests told me?”

Vincent nodded, mildly curious. The pain was gone; he shifted, pretending to readjust himself into a more comfortable position. He was actually preparing himself to strike. She was quite a human, but he did not like being tricked.

Daily Prompt: Punish

From The Grey House:

Vincent turned and headed for the cabin, pretending to want to check on the cleanup. Mierka was walking back to the van with Orlando in her arms. He had a rope tied around his snout as a muzzle. There was a rip in her sleeve. The wolf had tried to bite Mierka. If she wished, he would allow punishment, as long as it was not too harsh. She knew the risk of handling a wounded wolf. Vincent shook his head and continued into the cabin.

Daily Prompt: Wine

From The Grey House:

Vincent sipped at his drink, trying to enjoy the full flavor of the old wine. It was a twenty-year-old red from a local vineyard. It was supposed to be good, but he couldn’t care less. If it wasn’t blood, he didn’t enjoy it. He frowned into the glass wondering how to proceed. Richard was climbing the stairs to see to his boss and must have noticed the look. He was at the table in an instant.

“Something wrong with the wine, sir?” There was an anxious tone to his voice. He hated entertaining his boss even more than having the imposing man look through the paperwork.

Daily Prompt: General

From The Grey House:

Rebecca told both men her thoughts on the Internet bar being the actual safe house. Doug and Orlando assessed the situation upon arrival and came to the same conclusion. Orlando offered to stay in the van, as Doug was inconspicuous, and he was not. People generally noticed a tall black man with one blind eye and scars running down the left side of his face. The three werewolves sat and communicated for a while, trying to decide what to do.
