From The Grey House, Book Three, Protector of the Grey House:
Natalia shook her head, trying to pull away from the embrace. But Mierka was pressed against her back and Ted had his arms wrapped around her waist. The contrast between his heat and her chill made Natalia’s head reel and spin. The salty, sweet taste crept onto her tongue, causing an explosion in her head. Mierka’s voice was soft and soothing: a voice of reason. Except something wasn’t right with the situation and she couldn’t see through the cloud in her head to think about it well enough. Then the reassuring female voice was reverberating in her head and she let go of her doubt. This was a trustworthy voice. She could give in to the familiar sound; it would cause her no harm.
