From The Grey House:
Natalia loved running on the hard-packed sand. She ran barefoot, preferring the feel of the gritty sand to the cushion of a running shoe. She also hated wet shoes, which happened a great deal when running this close to the water’s edge. She liked to run because the feel of the wind against her body, the smell of the salt and seaweed, and the drumming of the surf against the sand helped her to forget her thoughts, and she had so much to forget.
