Daily Prompt: Deplete

via Daily Prompt: Deplete

The only usage of the word ‘deplete’ is from Riding the Maze, which was published in my short story collection, Enter the Maze. You can find that on Amazon here

Once in the house, they locked all the doors and windows and found the attic. They hunkered down and waited for night. Due to the lights and small quakes earlier, Peter suspected things were landing nearby. It was best to get inside and stay out of sight. He didn’t want to deplete their supplies this close to the end of the journey.

Daily Prompt: Glimmer

via Daily Prompt: Glimmer

When I see the Daily Prompt, sometimes I know I have never used the word before, sometimes I’m not sure and sometimes, I know I have used the word in my works. Sometimes I’m wrong, but not today. I saw ‘glimmer’ and knew I had a paragraph to share. Here it is, from The Grey House, Book Two, Inside the Grey House:

“No.” Vincent stopped pacing, a glimmer of a memory in his eye. He turned quickly to Joseph. “She isn’t ready.” He was at his desk, shaking the invitation at Joseph in less then a second. “She only knows how to fight in comfortable clothing. And if she arrives at Edwin’s function in anything but eveningwear, she’ll be turned away. She’s never fought in an evening gown and heels.” Vincent hit the invitation against Joseph’s chest with each word as he finished his tirade. “She’s.” Thwack. “Not.” Thwack. “Ready.” Thwack.

Daily Prompt: Froth

via Daily Prompt: Froth

This is from The Grey House, Book Three, Protector of the Grey House:

The father took a cross out of his suit and flashed it before her. He started frothing scripture. The words ran together and became unknowable. Natalia simply yawned, watched as her people got into position. The werewolves were still human, but Rebecca was grinning with anticipation, yellow eyes blazing. Charlie looked ready to launch himself at the priest, and two of the humans had stepped up behind Natalia, flanking her. Their guns were not yet visible, but their hands were at the ready. Natalia did not want to risk a fight in such small of a space. She turned her attention to Ashley.

Daily Prompt: Luminescent

via Daily Prompt: Luminescent

Not really surprised by this, but I have not  used ‘luminescent’ in my works. I tried ‘glow’ and ‘bright’ but the results weren’t what I wanted to share. Therefore, I am taking liberties and giving you a tiny paragraph from The Grey House, Book Two, Inside the Grey House with the word ‘glowering’. Yes, I connected the dots and made it work:

Vincent came back to himself and stood. He helped Lilly to her feet, thanking her for her help. He waved her away and turned back to Anthony, who stood glowering at the bottom of the steps.

Daily Prompt: Rush

via Daily Prompt: Rush

From The Grey House, Book Two, Inside the Grey House:

There was a rush of activity in the house as Vincent came in from the garage. He carried about him an aura that announced to his people that he would not be stopped. His suit was wrinkled, his brow furrowed. His long legs carried him quickly along his path and his hands were fists at his side.

Daily Prompt: Thwart

via Daily Prompt: Thwart

I didn’t use the word “thwart” in The Grey House Trilogy. Here is a paragraph from That Which has No Name, where I do use the word:

Althea watched the interaction, intrigued. It was obvious that the Pastor thought well of the daughter. It was also obvious that she liked the man, as she kept looking at him from over her mother’s shoulder. But her mother was thwarting the girl’s every attempt to talk to the Pastor. It was amusing, and educational. Althea stood and smiled, her plan already formulating in her mind. She walked out of the church, into the nearby woods. If her plan was going to work, she would need to ditch her current host.

Daily Prompt: Inchoate

via Daily Prompt: Inchoate

Today’s Daily prompt is for a word I have never used and will probably never use. I had to look it up. Though I like “big words” and often use “big words” in my every day speaking and in my works, “inchoate” is not something I am familiar enough to use. Therefore, I have chose a random paragraph from The Grey House Book One, because that is more my style.

Slowly, deliberately, Vincent walked out of the office, down the hallway and out into the main room. Scanning the crowd, he found the quickest route through the guests to the private corner. Anthony and his mystery woman were still speaking softly. He stood unnoticed for two minutes. Vincent was not a happy man. He wanted to pull Anthony away from her, but he knew from experience that to rip a hypnotized person away from the hypnotist was a very bad idea. Instead, he cleared his throat. Twice.

Daily Prompt: Haul

via Daily Prompt: Haul

From The Grey House, Book Three, Protector of the Grey House:

Natalia vaguely remembered waking up twice before, only to feel a slight pain on her leg and then darkness. Not wanting to be drugged again, she kept her eyes closed and tried to look as if she were still asleep. It proved to be harder then she realized as thoughts of the others in the household flooded her mind. Her eyes snapped open and she tried to haul herself to her feet. She immediately regretted it when she felt a slight pain in her thigh. She looked down long enough to see a tranquilizer dart sticking out of her leg. She passed out cursing herself for her haste.

Daily Prompt: Frigid

via Daily Prompt: Frigid

From The Grey House, Book Two, Inside the Grey House:

Natalia lay in the circle of his cooling arms, feeling as his body stole her heat, wondering what he would do to her when he decided she needed to be punished for her arguable betrayal. He moved slightly in his sleep, trapping her further as his arms tightened around her. She leaned into the frigidness of him, closed her eyes and let it all go. He would do as he saw fit and she would accept it. She killed Dean to keep him from suffering at the hands of the vampires in the house. She would take her punishment with her head held high, knowing she would do it all over again if she had the chance.
