Daily Prompt: Cake

From Inside the Grey House:

It was close to sunrise. Ben and one of Vincent’s humans had been taking care of Natalia for a full day. Ben had been able to give Natalia plenty of water but no food. She wasn’t awake enough for that. He was attempting to give her more water when someone knocked on the door. Joseph came in not waiting for an answer. His shirt and pants were wrinkled, and his pant cuffs were caked in dirt and dust.

“Don’t come closer.” Ben pointed to his boss’s dirt covered pants. “An infection could kill her.”

Daily Prompt: Forward

From Inside the Grey House:

A muscle twitched in his jaw. He had spoken without thinking, which happened a lot when he was near her. Vincent didn’t want to have this argument in front of all his people. It was none of their business. “You’re my woman, Natalia, which means you are one of mine.”

She stepped forward. Surprised, he stepped back. “Then why let me place myself in harm’s way Vincent? If I’m really one of yours, you would never let me fight Edwin’s men.”

“I had nothing to fear. I know what you can do.”

Daily Prompt: Remember

From Inside the Grey House:

When they entered the master bedroom, Natalia gasped at the sight of the four-poster bed. Her dream came back to her as she looked around. Though the dream had not occurred in some time, she remembered it well. She was laying a bed similar to the one she was looking at now, surrounded by sheets and drapes in various shades of red. A man appeared, holding a goblet of blood and called her child. Beyond him was a balcony. She knew now that Joseph was the man with the goblet. Natalia wondered it this room was the room she had dreamt of.

Daily Prompt: Notion

From Inside the Grey House:

He closed his eyes and nuzzled her hair with his nose, smelling the fruity scent of her shampoo. As her fire penetrated his chill an ugly worm of a notion crawled into his mind and started wriggling around his psyche, threatening his pleasure filled thoughts. He gathered her closer, wanting to drink her heat and bring her the eternal cold of his kind. It would be sinfully easy. The sleeping human would feel nothing, probably wouldn’t wake until he was feeding her his own blood. And then it would be too late to abort.

Daily Prompt: Unrestrained

From Inside the Grey House:

She shook her head. “Edwin, I’m my own person. If you order Vincent to give me to you, I’ll leave him.” Her eyes and voice grew hard. “Then, I’ll be my own person, free to kill you when and how I want, unrestrained by the rules of the two vampire societies that reside in the Bay Area. Then, once you’re dead, I’ll return to Vincent.”

Daily Prompt: Judge

From Inside the Grey House:

And then he did.

Markus lunged at her, wanting to knock her to the ground. Natalia jumped up, trying to leap over him. Thinking to land on his back and drive her heels into his flesh, she forced herself down, sinking all her weight to her feet. She misjudged his intentions and missed him as he dove to the right. Natalia landed hard on her feet and she felt her left foot threatening to slip out from under her. She stumbled forward in an effort not to twist her ankle. It didn’t work. Her right foot caught in a crack in the floor and her already unstable left finally slipped and she fell hard on her rump. Her eyes grew wide as she heard the snap.

Daily Prompt: Install

From Inside the Grey House:

Ben put the glass on the table, got up and left.

Joseph knew that every room in the house was wired with cameras and microphones. Vincent liked to make sure guests weren’t plotting against him. Joseph reached into his pants pocket and took out a small remote control he always carried with him. Vincent gave him the device when the surveillance equipment had been installed, in case Joseph wanted to have some privacy with Mierka. The device also came in handy when he and Vincent needed to have private conversations.

Daily Prompt: Head

From Inside the Grey House:

Vincent growled through his grin. Edwin looked at the two, not sure what to make of the woman in Vincent’s arms. She looked too old for his taste, but something about her grabbed his attention. Infuriated with being ignored, his voice was thick with loathing. “Isn’t she for me?”

Natalia turned her head to the younger vampire trying to intimidate her. Vincent informed her earlier of how old Edwin was and how much combat training he had had. She knew she could take him down in three blows. She wasn’t afraid of his inferior skills. “I’m here for Vincent’s pleasure,” she turned back to Vincent, “and for mine.”

Daily Prompt: Generally

From Inside The Grey House:

Natalia gave Charlie a pitiful look. He came back from Montana about a month ago. Rebecca was still taking care of the twins on Vincent’s ranch. As her husband seemed to grate on her every nerve, making it hard for her to watch the newborns, she sent Charlie back here. Without Rebecca, Charlie seemed a little harder to control. Vincent didn’t seem to appreciate having the werewolf without the Alpha, but understood Rebecca’s need for space. Charlie’s frustrations seemed to be transferring to Orlando and Doug, who were generally more controllable. If Charlie felt like he needed to get out, maybe it was best to get him out.

She sighed. “Maybe I can use you, but Charlie, you’re going to have to travel in wolf form and hide in my backseat.”

Daily Prompt: Smile

From Inside the Grey House:

Ben nodded. “That’s all then.”

“Thank you.”

He stood and smiled. “If I may ask a question?”

She watched his eyes as they changed from professional to that of a man admiring a woman. She frowned slightly and wondered at his thoughts. “All right.”

He paused and looked her up and down. She was sitting up straight on the couch, one arm resting on the armrest, the other beside her on the couch. Her legs were crossed, and the dress was clinging to her shapely legs. His smile came back. “Where did Vincent find you?”

“I found him.” Her voice showed her pride.
