I rewrote a large few chunks of this book. I’m glad I did. This scene is one of them. I like how Mierka and Joseph interact with each other and how they pretty much do as they please regarding Vincent.
From Protector of the Grey House:
“You play a risky game.”
She smirked and shrugged. The conversation thus far had been calm as if the two lovers were discussing a trivial matter and not their boss staked and incapacitated. “I have played this game before. I know the risks.” She looked Joseph up and down. “And you? What are you up to?”
“Anthony has agreed to take the ring and destroy it.”
Her eyes opened wide. She looked to Vincent, then back to Joseph. “He doesn’t want that.”
“Natalia is under its spell. Our benefactor is currently not in his right mind. He doesn’t have a say in this.”
She gave a short laugh. “You play a dangerous game as well, love.
Joseph shrugged, went to the cabinets, and took the ring. “I refuse to allow this dangerous item to continue to try and entice that woman. She will not be our deaths.” With the ring in hand, Joseph turned to look at Mierka. She had an odd look in her eyes. “Yes?”
She held his gaze. “Her death should be in our hands.”
“It will be in his hands if all goes as they want.”
