From Protector of the Grey House:
“What’s going on?”
“Natalia’s looking for Vincent. I didn’t know where he was. She didn’t believe me, and I showed her the screens. She said her rooms were missing and they are.”
Rebecca frowned, then a memory clicked in. “Oh, he’s…”
When she didn’t finish, Charlie turned around to look at his wife. “What?”
Rebecca shook her head.
Charlie’s mouth dropped open. “He has a secret room?”
“No, and you don’t know anything. Get out of the chair and let me take over.”
Charlie moved but watched his wife closely. He wanted to know more, but shook his head and turned back to look at the monitors. Rebecca typed quickly and brought up Natalia’s room. The human could be seen walking through her sitting room and into her bedroom.
“There was something off about Nat.”
Rebecca turned to glance at Charlie. “Tell me quickly. I’m still trying to decide if we need a human. We may need to wake Joseph.”
He glanced sharply at his wife. “Why?”
“Tell me about Natalia.”
He shook his head. “She was real fidgety. Seemed agitated.”
“Ok?”
He placed his hand on Rebecca’s shoulder until she turned and looked at him. “Have you ever known her to fidget? When she’s agitated, or angry she shows it with anger. I don’t have a memory of her ever acting nervous,” pain flashed across his features, “not even toward me after I bit her.”
