Daily Prompt: blue

What does Vincent give Natalia that prompts this answer?

From Protector of the Grey House:

Vincent cocked his head, wondering at her two little words. “Natalia?”

She looked into his clear blue eyes, seeing his unspoken words. She had become adept at reading her lover. “I can’t accept this Vincent. I don’t deserve this. I’m not like you. I’m not a vampire. This shouldn’t be mine.”

Undeterred, Vincent stepped forward, caressing her cheek softly. “Have any of the words I’ve uttered been a lie?”

Daily Prompt: teacher

In the book, the last sentence in this sections goes from larger letters to tiny letters. Didn’t translate here. I’ve been told not to do things like that, but I think it’s fun to play with typesetting. There are plenty of poets that do it. Writing is visual; why can’t we have fun with the typesetting?
p.s. I tried to change the typesetting/font here as well, but can’t seem to do that here. You’ll have to wait to see how it looks in the book.

From Protector of the Grey House:

“What’s your name boy?” He inquired, like a teacher asking an unruly student on the first day of class.

            “damien

It was a whisper. Vincent barely heard him. He wasn’t choking him, as the boy didn’t need to breathe, but he still needed air to speak. Vincent loosened his fingers and asked again.

The boy took a deep breath and in a terrified voice that was trying desperately not to sound frightened, “DAMIEN LORD OF DARKNESS AND ALL HE SEES?”

Daily Prompt: rocking

From Protector of the Grey House:

Diana was whispering softly, rocking back and forth slowly, minutely. He could barely hear her words but felt them as Natalia continued to heal. He glanced toward Diana and saw she was staring right at him. He turned his head a little and gave her his full attention. She grabbed his gaze, holding it as her words came faster and her rocking became harder. He inhaled sharply as the other presence in his being slipped away and he no longer felt Natalia. Diana closed her eyes, said some final words, shuddered and sat back. Natalia’s back was healed, and her breathing was regular. Vincent leaned over and felt her pulse. It was strong and steady. He looked up sharply at the healer.

“How?”

“I replenished her blood. And I cut the connection between you two.”

Daily Prompt: cheek

This is life with MS: I missed work on Friday as I hadn’t slept well for a few days and just couldn’t think well enough to focus on much. Then the weekend happened and I don’t know if I slept enough, but as it was the weekend, it didn’t matter. Last night, I didn’t sleep until after 1:30am, work at 4:30 to fiance’s alarm, fell back asleep and wok to my alarm at 7:15. You would think that was enough sleep. It’s isn’t. And I feel worse than I did on Friday. But as I already missed Friday, I feel guilty about missing work today. So I will power through. This sucks.
Here’s something more fun to read:

From Protector of the Grey House:

“You never did tell me what you asked.” He caressed her cheek with the back of his hand, wishing to wipe away the pain in her eyes.

Natalia gave him an impish smile, uncrossed her arms, and placed her hands on the counter. Her movement caused her robe to slip open. “I asked about the club, at first, then I started asking about you. My main concern was what kind of woman you were attracted to.”

“What did he tell you?” Vincent let business go for a moment, closing the slight distance between them.

“That your women were usually strong in some way, and always beautiful. But it didn’t sound like any of them were as stubborn as I am.”

Daily Prompt: rely

From Protector of the Grey House:

Nevertheless, the disquieting feeling was almost overpowering.

It subsided as the limo drew closer to the house and he let himself relax. Perhaps it was just anxiety. He pushed it to the side and allowed himself to rely on the women who were running his house. The car stopped at that moment and the back door was opened to reveal Lorraine standing in nothing more than a black silk robe. Vincent was the closest to the door and left first, going straight for Lorraine. He kissed her on the cheek, stepping back to admire her in her rather inappropriate outfit.

“Sire. Your warriors have returned.”

Daily Prompt: find

“Find” and “finding” and “finds” appear 82 times in this novel. When the word popped up, I knew I would have a lot of choices.

From Protector of the Grey House:

“She deserves it. She’s been protecting us all for a lot of years and has given us more Slayer weapons than I thought existed. She may be doing all this in order to find the one she wants to kill, but it has been to our benefit.”

A smile came to Joseph’s face. “And you’re happy to have her in your bed.”

Vincent gave him a sardonic look as Joseph closed the box and handed it back. “That was not a factor in my decision, and you know it.”

“Of course not. But if she has rank, knows how important she is to you, perhaps she’ll stay after she kills Donald.”

“One can hope.” Vincent locked the box back in his drawer.

Daily Prompt: interesting

I’ve had insomnia all week: sleeping less than 5 hours a night. Either can’t fall asleep or can’t stay asleep. I made it work every day except today. Lack of sleep makes the MS act up. Whenever I miss a day, I always think a co-work thinks I’m faking it. (not one in particular, just someone) This is a larger feeling when I end up missing a Monday or Friday. I don’t care if someone thinks I’m faking, I just wish it wasn’t in my head. It is a useless feeling and does me no good. Thank you for reading.

From Protector of the Grey House:

“He was Special Ops in this country’s armed forces before he was changed.”

Vincent shook his head. “It took a vampire with human training to track my human. Interesting. Any more like him?”

“Wayne was pointing me toward a friend of his.”

“Take care of it if you see fit.” He waved the subject away. Vincent always asked his people to check with him before changing a human and did the same when wanting to change someone himself. He knew Wayne, and knew the vampire had been trustworthy, despite his last act. If Wayne thought someone a worthy candidate, and Anthony concurred, all was well.

Daily Prompt: loose

Good morning. It is Thursday and the rain has been falling steadily here in Northern Illinois since 4:30 when I woke up for no reason.

From Protector of the Grey House:

Natalia started to walk forward but was once again stopped. This time, Charlie simply wrapped his arms around her and held on. She struggled against him, trying to get loose. The struggle became more pronounced as she tried to obey her lover. All she wanted was to do as he said, and he wanted her to go to him.

Charlie, afraid of what the vampire would do to her, finally tripped Natalia and held her to the ground. Whatever had happened to her it was clear she was in a heightened state of out of her mind. He held on to her, crushing her to the floor as she screamed her frustration. Why the vamps weren’t getting one or both out of the room was beyond his comprehension.

Daily Prompt: forward

So far this year, I’ve written over 167,000 words in 2 different novels. I can’t wait to share both of them with the world.

From Protector of the Grey House:

Vincent stood waiting, letting the tension in the room grow. He watched patiently while Anthony nodded to Joseph then went to join Julia, who was standing with the other vampires. Vincent stepped forward, crossed his arms behind his back and waited for silence. It didn’t take long. There was a feeling of anticipation. All under his protection were present. The only creature that didn’t know something was amiss was Natalia.

Vincent turned his attention to her and caught her eye. “Natalia, front and center.”

Natalia gave him a quizzical expression. Even with her headache a memory, she didn’t want to fight, and had already informed him of such. She crossed her arms and shook her head. “I’m not fighting today Vincent.”

He stared her down, giving her a stern look. The look was very much a master instructing a disobedient servant. “Natalia, do as I ask.”

Daily Prompt: painting

You know it’s not going to be a good day when the alarm wakes you up and the first words out of your mouth are “Fuck this shit.”

From Protector of the Grey House:

The place was a mess. Donald’s rig was resting in the driveway. The weeds around it were high, proving it had been parked for a while. There was garbage strewn everywhere and the house needed painting. Natalia wondered if it had been this bad the last time she was here, but couldn’t clearly recall.

Natalia walked up the sagging steps with the cross held out in front of her and tried the door. It was unlocked. She opened it slowly and looked around. There were dishes and dirt and dust everywhere. A kitchen chair was overturned. Natalia walked to the living room. She stepped in carefully and dropped the cross when she saw her mother sitting in the recliner staring at a blank TV screen.
