Daily Prompt: Sea

Though I did find the word ‘sea’ in my novel, I realized it should be replaced with the word ‘ocean’. I changed it, but decided to share that paragraph anyways.

From The Grey House, Book One:

Vincent was sitting on one of the chairs with Natalia in his lap, her chest to his chest. His arms were around her, their fingers entwined. His legs were between hers and her legs were hanging over the edge of the armrests. When they had moved there, Natalia didn’t know. Her memory was unreliable. She moved away a little and looked at the sea and sky, wondering how she was going to have the energy to go home.

Daily Prompt: Parking

From The Grey House, Book One:

Charlie took his food and handed hers over. The cook had cut her burger as ordered, which made it easier for Natalia to handle the food with one hand. They ate in silence, exchanging glances, but not wanting to say too much. As always, Charlie finished her leftovers. Natalia leaned back in her seat, sipping on her chocolate shake. It was thick and rich, just the way she liked it. Once finished with the food, Charlie took the containers and bags out to the trash. After making sure she didn’t need to use the restroom, he started the van and left the parking lot for the highway. It was fifteen minutes before either of them spoke.

Daily Prompt: Disappear

From The Grey House, Book One:

With that, he was gone. It surprised Natalia how fast he could disappear. She shook her head then looked around and found the entrance to the stairway. The door was locked, but that didn’t stop her for very long. She knew how to pick locks, and this was a fairly cheap lock. She was on the street and on her way home shortly after Tony Lam left.

Daily Prompt: Trunk

From The Grey House, Book One:

Natalia turned and walked away, leaving Vincent to answer his phone. She walked to the end of the deck where a set of stairs led to the parking lot. She heard the car before she saw it. There was a short limousine idling at the bottom of the steps, with the back door hanging open. A woman was leaning against the car, ready to close the door for Vincent. Very convenient for Vincent, very inconvenient for her. She nodded to the driver as she maneuvered around the car. Natalia was almost around it when she was whipped back around. Her bag banged against the trunk of the car as Vincent trapped her against the side.

Thoughts

I’ve been re-reading some of my books lately, I do that sometimes. I re-read Hell’s Junction, Nephilim, Feed the Piggies, The Storm, Starry Night, and a couple more. Though Hell’s Junction is older than the other ones I’ve re-read, I’ve had an interesting thought about most of the others.

Nephilim, Feed the Piggies, and, Starry Night all feel young. Like an inexperienced writer wrote them. Feed the Piggies is the newest of the bunch, but it still feels off. Now, Nephilim and Feed the Piggies are not finished works. Large chapters are missing, but I have read other incomplete works of mine that don’t feel as “young”. I don’t know how to fix that.

And how in the heck does a book feel “young”? Maybe they are just missing some intrinsic piece of the plot that I have not thought of yet. It’s not that I haven’t written part of the plot, it’s that I have not thought of the missing part. The stories are complete in my mind, but not on paper/computer.

After moving a section of book around in Nephilim, I realized that the books are young due to being incomplete ideas. They need a lot more work. Which is awesome and frustrating at the same time.

Daily Prompt: Accident

From The Grey House, Book One:

Since that night, Christopher’s list of successors grew shorter as many of them found untimely deaths. Accidental deaths, or Slayer induced deaths that seemed a little too convenient. Not all of Christopher’s named heirs were meeting their deaths. The smart ones were making sure Edwin understood who they followed and wanted to protect.

Daily Prompt: Demand

From The Grey House, Book One:

“You’re not in a position to demand anything, madam.” His face was inches from hers; his cool breath caressed her cheek. In other circumstances, it would be pleasant.

Daily Prompt: Broken

From The Grey House, Book One:

Vincent felt the laugh in her chest before it bubbled and broke to the surface. “I can’t be possessed. And torture?” She laughed again, and looked at Anthony. “You have more to lose if you torture me. I will not be broken.”

Daily Prompt: Emergency

From The Grey House, Book One:

She shook her head. “Then I want to go to my place. If I’m not sharing your bed, then I want to be in mine. I want to wake up tomorrow and take a shower in my bathroom, maybe go to the emergency room and get myself looked at.”
