Daily Prompt: linger

Before getting out of bed this morning, I had a rather zen thought. I also realized I was having a bad MS day and would not be working, but the zen thought has brought me peace. It is not a new thought, but it is welcomed and I embrace it. I want to write on it more later. For the moment, I leave you with: we are all one.

From Protector of the Grey House:

His free hand went to her cheek, drew her in for a deep lingering kiss. He pulled away, whispered into her ear. She heard the emotions finally coming through in his voice.

“Leave it.”

It was such a simple command, such a simple action. There was more there than what she had previously assumed. Why he wanted her to leave her hair alone was still beyond her scope of understanding, but she knew it wasn’t a control factor as she had originally thought. He did that at times, asked her not to do something to test his dominance. If she felt like playing along, she would obey. If she didn’t, she would laugh and tease him with her own dominance. They both enjoyed the game. The look in his eye and the tone of his voice did not suggest dominance; it suggested subservience, which was far more intriguing.

Daily Prompt: discontent

From Protector of the Grey House:

Vincent pulled out his phone for the fourth time that morning, frowning when there were still no messages awaiting his attention. He was in one of Lorraine’s limos, surrounded by comrades who were talking loudly about their victory. All he could think of was Natalia. He had a disquieting feeling that all was not well in his house. There were no calls though, so everything was fine. Except for the feeling crawling into his gut and breeding discontent.

It had been a successful hunt. The group of rebellious young vampires were dealt with easily. That was to be expected with himself, Joseph, Ben, Anthony, Rowland, Maxine and Julianna fighting for Lorraine. All were old vampires and skilled in several weapon forms. The young ones were dispatched in minutes. Now they were on their way back to Lorraine’s palatial estate where they would feast and spend much time in bed. Or at least he and Lorraine would. The others would have to fend for themselves. The prospect of entwining himself in Lorraine’s arms didn’t help quiet the worry he had felt since waking.

Daily Prompt:

From Protector of the Grey House:

Vincent lifted her slightly and sat her on the counter. It was marble and well built. They had used it before. He nuzzled her neck, wondering if he could take her blood, or if she had lost too much to Wayne. “None of the women I’ve loved have ever been as stubborn as you. Or as incredibly frustrating.”

Natalia’s mind stopped as his words seeped into her brain. It was the closest he had come to saying he loved her. She had never expected to hear it. Since her declaration two years ago, she hadn’t repeated her words. Had never felt it necessary. She closed her eyes and let his words slip by, almost. “Have any of the women you’ve loved been like me?”

Daily Prompt: theory

From Protector of the Grey House:

“What is it that would determine her susceptibility?”

“Whether or not she trusts the vampire. Perhaps we should test the theory if she is willing?”

“If she is willing.”

“Who?”

“You, Mierka, Anthony, myself. When she’s up to it. Maybe two or three weeks from now.”

“Do you think it’s wise to use Anthony?”

“We need to use someone we trust whom she wouldn’t want to possess her.”

“As you wish.”

Daily Prompt: result

From Protector of the Grey House:

Morgan and Kari, who had come to him some years ago, pleading for help, were being watched. He didn’t trust either of them, but would allow them their lives, as long as they did nothing rash. Morgan had pledged loyalty a week after Edwin’s Red Tie disaster. Kari, who had not been present at the function, came to Vincent the day after Morgan and pledged her loyalty. As she seemed to be interested in information, she was given to Anthony for instruction.

Morgan too, expressed an interest in information gathering, and seemed to find enough information on Edwin’s stragglers that Anthony soon promoted him to Second Sergeant. Vincent, Joseph and Anthony were keeping their heads about them and Morgan was under constant watch. He had not been part of Edwin’s inner sanctum, but he had been on the fringes. It was possible the young vampire was trying to get Edwin back into power. As a result, they had him watched.

Daily Prompt: pattern

From Protector of the Grey House:

“We’ve searched all rooms except the basement and security room, both of which have been locked out. We listened at the security room door and something is in there, but we don’t know what.” She paused and looked to Joseph. “Mierka was on duty last night.” She turned back to Vincent. “We couldn’t hear anything from the basement, and we couldn’t get into either area as you never gave me the codes to unlock those doors.” Rebecca was rebuking him lightly, trying to control her own anxiety. Charlie went missing that morning, against orders, and she was worried.

Vincent barged past the women, grabbed Rebecca, stormed to the security room door and searched for a quick minute to find the secret panel. The panel slid open as he grabbed Rebecca’s hand. Pointing her finger, he entered the code, making sure she saw the numbers. Rebecca committed the pattern to memory and stepped back as the door slid open.

Daily Prompt: company

I was having a hard time finding a word to use today, as I had two documents open and was searching the wrong one. **sign** on a good note, I’ve added quite a few chapters to a book I haven’t worked on since 2018. It’s set in England in the late 1800s and features aliens who crash landed in the English Channel. Also has a love story, because well, that’s what I do.

From Protector of the Grey House:

Natalia gagged again and doubled over, trying hard not to throw up. Though this was not her first time in the dungeon, the smell was worse this time, and her company was not as pleasant. The stench of meat rotting in the hot sun was so strong it was hard to concentrate. Natalia did not know why they were down here but did not really want to find out.

Joseph watched briefly as the human struggled with her environment. After a moment or two, he grabbed her arm and herded her to the last door in the hallway. He paused, pushing her against the nearby wall.

The stench was getting worse, but she found if she breathed through her mouth, it was not as bad. “How long will I be down here?”

“As long as it takes.” Joseph opened the door and watched Natalia’s expression as the stench was released from the room.

Daily Prompt: weightlessness

I write fantasy romance novels. I try not to place too many seduction or sex scenes in my blog in case someone underage reads it. But every once in a while, a word shows me a scene, I really want to share. So here you go. Seduction.

From Protector of the Grey House:

Joseph continued his slow seduction, removing her clothing, but not allowing her to remove his, when she tried. He was driving her insane with the lightness of his touch. Eventually, she begged and pleaded, but he still touched her with an aching weightlessness.

“God damn you, Joseph! Please give me what I want!” She pleaded as he slowly sucked at her breast.

He grinned around her nipple. “God can’t help you in this household, woman. And I’ve already been damned by worse than He.”

Natalia cried out in frustration, as he continued his soft touch. Finally, fed up with his aggravating strokes, she pulled her hands free, grabbed his shirt and spat her words into his face through clenched teeth. “Give me what I want, you pitiful excuse for a man!”

The devil showed in his smile. “The insult was not necessary.”

Daily Prompt: sign

From Protector of the Grey House:

Joseph interrupted his thoughts, whispering that the humans were finally starting to leave. “Our people are ready. But there’s something out of place.”

“Isn’t there always?”

“It appears this is an initiation. The Mayor, and two of his aids, will be staying to the end.”

“He and his people left an hour ago.”

“Three are coming back.”

“This changes nothing. It will only show Gary the power I possess. Tell everyone to get ready. The girls will be our sign.”

Joseph gave him a slight bow and left to attend to the business at hand.

Daily Prompt: monster

The word ‘monster’ is to describe what scares us. Monsters in the closet, monsters under the bed, monsters in our mind. I like using it to describe people who are capable of horrendous things.

Vincent stayed silent.

“I’ve come to offer my assistance.”

“You never fight.”

“You’re right. I don’t. I thought I might help to keep all your people here.”

Vincent gave the Incubus a skeptical look. “I will not hand them over to another monster.”

“I don’t like children.” A slow smile came across his features. “I like women who know how to please, like Natalia.”
