Follow the Lights

The lights twinkled in the forest, guiding the couple further along the path. She was convinced the twinkling lights were fairies. He wasn’t quite certain and wanted to turn back. She pulled him along by the hand, promising kisses at the end, no matter what. He went, but only for the kisses.

The lights danced on, beckoning them further. The forest grew darker, until only the dancing lights, now thick in the air, lit the way. The trees were ancient and grand, taller than he could see. Moss grew on all the bark, which undulated with insects. Leaves carpeted the ground, stilling their footsteps. The wind rustled the leaves on the trees, sending shivers up his spine. He tried to pull her back. She kissed him hard then pulled him further in. She needed to see the lights.

On and on they went, as the way grew darker and darker. Finally, the path opened up. The lights danced around them, surrounded them as the couple went to the center. The lights flew around faster and faster. She let him go and held her hands out to the lights, trying to catch one.

A light landed in her palm. She cupped her hand and brought it close to see. Before she could, she felt a nip on her palm. She opened her hand and the tiny creature stared up at her, smiled, then opened its mouth, as if it were making a noise. An angry buzzing started and the lights picked up speed. He knocked the fairy out of her hands and grabbed her wrist. He pulled her toward the path, but the lights were too thick. Before they reached the path, no evidence of the man and woman remained. At sunup, the lights faded into the trees, to slumber for another year.

December 31, 2014

2013 was a year of sorrow and heartache.

2014, my heart grew and healed a bit. Something completely unexpected happened between a long time friend and I and I still have trouble believing it’s real sometimes.

I published, I mourned, I loved. I keep learning more and more about myself and I hope that never stops.

Dreams for 2015? I’ll figure that out as I go.

Goals: finish my 20th novel. Maybe publish a second one. Maybe try harder to sell my first, or rather, try to advertise it better. Though The Elven Prince is doing fine on its own, I really need to advertise better. Get people to remember it’s there. That will help me learn how to do better with other books as well. If I’m ever going to make money off my own writing, I need to learn how to sell my books.

I turn 40 this year. Trying not to freak out about that. I’m doing something for myself that I never thought I would do. I’ll probably write about it at some point, but for now, I’ll leave it as a mystery.

I may add to this again, or I might leave it alone. It’s not a resolution. Years ago, I made a New Year’s Resolution never to make another resolution again. It’s the only one that stuck.

This is more of a ‘hello’ and perhaps a reminder to myself and others that just because the calendar is changing, it doesn’t mean we have to. We can change anytime we want. Anytime we choose. So choose to do it when you’re comfortable with it, not when society tells you to. Have fun, be safe, and always create.

NaNoWriMo 2014

I did finish NaNoWriMo, but things got hectic and I forgot to let everyone know. I finished with 51900 words, but the book is not done. It needs an ending, then MAJOR edits. I have plot holes and inconsistencies, as I did not want to stop for NaNoWriMo and fix things along the way. Now that November is done, I will take the time to finish and edit. This is a very busy time of year at my job though, so I have less time than I would like. It’s ok, though. I will get Feed The Piggies done. It’s too much fun not to have finished.

Keep being creative and have a Happy Holidays!

Hello! I hope everyone stuffed themselves silly yesterday for Thanksgiving! I know I did.

Today, I validated my word count on Nanowrimo. I wrote another chapter between the last post and this one and included it in the word count. Novel is not finished. I will be updating as I write, in order to help myself out a bit in getting it done.

NaNoWriMo offical word count for Feed the Piggies: 51,958

If you’re reading this and also participated in NaNoWriMo, I hope you reach your goal!

Kickin’ it at 48,053 words

And seeing as how I have yet to share much about the novel, here are 4 paragraphs from Chapter One. They are not the first four, but might give you an idea of what is to come:

Sam brought the bottle to his lips and raised an eyebrow. Brandon took the hint and placed his beer to his lips. Sam drank all his beer, not stopping until it was gone. Brandon did the same, but barely made it. Halfway through the beer, he started to drop the bottle. Sam reached over with his free hand and helped Brandon swallow the rest.

He took the bottle away from his guest and watched as Brandon fell over on the couch, out cold. He smiled, put the beer bottles down and went back to the kitchen. He came back with a syringe. A quick poke to Brandon’s neck ensured the man would not wake for twenty-four hours. Plenty of time to take care of things.

Sam went to the kitchen, cleaned the syringe then put it and the drugs away. He put away all the liquor, including the empty bottles of beer. He then went to his guest, fished around in his pockets until he had Brandon’s keys, cell phone and wallet. He placed those on the table, grabbed Brandon’s wrist with one hand and placed the other on Brandon’s waist.

He hoisted his guest up onto his shoulders and hauled him out of the living room. He walked through the kitchen, then carried Brandon through the cellar and dropped him onto a think, dark wooden table. Leaving the man dressed, he strapped him in with the restraints and then left the room.

Word count stands at 45747.

At this point it’s not “Get 50,000 words in one month” it’s “I’m supposed to finish my story in less than 5000 words?”

Oh, and for the record, when this is done, it’ll be my 20th complete novel since 2005.

November 22, 2014

A lot of things going on today, but still managed to bring my word count to 40,400.

Might get more done today, but we’ll see. I’m happy about the count so far. 😀

November 21, 2014

So this is frustrating. I realized that my word count was off. So though I wrote a ton last night and this morning, I’m actually off my about 1000 words. Still have more than yesterday, but have less than I thought I would. grrrrrrrrr My own fault.

Oh, well. Only think to do is keep writing!

36669, and I think I just wrote two of the craziest couple chapters I’ve ever written. It was so much fun!

Keep in mind, I am writing about serial killers… I love writing evil main characters! They have no morals. More tomorrow. Good night!
