Daily Prompt: ocean

From Protector of the Grey House:

This was the room; this was the view. This was where her dream took place. This was where Joseph would give her her first drink of blood as her sire. She stepped onto the deck and gazed in wonder at the ocean beyond. It was a beautiful, awful view. She held back a sob, as she understood that one day, she would no longer be able to see the ocean during the day. She wondered at the deck, but figured the glass had to be protected. Vincent told her that even with the protected glass, it was dangerous for vampires to be in direct sunlight. Vincent probably didn’t usually use the deck during the day.

“Natalia,” a soft, stern voice called.

She turned to the door and saw Joseph’s hand held out to her. His skin became pink as she watched. As she had suspected, even with the protective glass, full daylight was dangerous to vampires. With a sigh, she stepped back to the door and took his offered hand. He pulled her through and closed the glass door behind her.

Daily Prompt: appointment

From Protector of the Grey House:

“Who is this?”

“Father Sulta.” The name was past her lips before he could slam his hand on her shoulder to silence her.

“Father Sulta?” Natalia’s voice rang with confidence.

He looked at her with hate.

“There are pedestrians on the sidewalk. We’re next to a major bus stop. If we start anything, humans will die. Do you really want to risk the death of humans to kill me?”

“You’re a Hellspawn’s whore. You have caused the death of many of my kind. You will die!”

“Yes, yes, yes. But does it have to be today?” She spoke as if adding an appointment to her busy schedule.

“There are no innocents here.”

She turned, and gestured at the windows, which ran the length of the café on both sides. The shops were open, and it was a lovely day. The streets were crowded.

Father Sulta followed her gaze, outraged at the truth. He slowly stretched then cracked his neck. “Fine. Leave. Take your demons. But know this. The next time-”

“Yeahyeahyeah.” She waved his threat away, bored. “The next time you see me, I kill you. Not a problem.” She turned to the room at large. “File out.”

Daily Prompt: fence

From Protector of the Grey House:

“Hey.” Rebecca walked to Natalia, who sat at a table outside by the fence.

Natalia nodded but didn’t say anything. The werewolf sat down across from her and sipped at her beer.

“How are you feeling?”

“I don’t know. I think that’s what I’m trying to figure out.” She rubbed her temples with her hand, as if to prevent a headache.

“Ok, so you can totally bow out. We can go upstairs, find Mierka, tell her to hell with it and leave. Isn’t this your decision?”

“Yes, but…” She frowned. “You reminded me a lot of Charlie right there.”

Rebecca smiled. “Happens when you’re in a long relationship. You sometimes look like Vincent. Or rather, you get a look in your eye like he does.”

Natalia smiled a little but didn’t know what to say.

“So, want to leave or what?”

“You think I should, don’t you?”

“I think you should do what you want, which is what you always do.”

Daily Prompt:

From Protector of the Grey House:

Vincent stood in front of the rest of Morgan’s younglings. He presented them his back, almost as if to dare them to try something. “I’m going to give you a chance to talk with me rather than just killing you right now Morgan. Despite your lack of loyalty, you have shown yourself to be a rather valuable source of information. But you are replaceable. So, you, Anthony, Kari, Markus and I will sit down and have a nice quiet chat, while my men figure out what to do with your younglings. Agreed?”

He heard movement behind him. A voice spoke up and tried to sound tough.

“We’re not going anywhere. We stay with Mor-”

The youngling’s sentence was cut off Vincent’s hand squeezed his throat. Vincent pulled the young vampire to his face and stared the ignorant fool down.

Vincent snorted at the ridiculous boy before him. He had white makeup all over his face and neck with black eyeliner, mascara, and black lipstick. He wore black leather…everything. He was what society regarded as Goth, and what the vampires called an easy meal. Vincent briefly looked upon the remaining eleven boys and girls. Most seemed to finally understand what was going to happen to them. All were easy meals. He understood now how Morgan had gotten them. He hadn’t looked for worthy candidates. Morgan had chosen easy targets: cannon fodder. These children were to keep him occupied while, what? Morgan tried to get the drop on him? Vincent glanced at Morgan. The man still sat on the ground. He hadn’t even bothered getting up. Vincent turned back to the young one in his hand. The boy struggled and clawed at Vincent’s hand, to try and pry open the vise-like grip of his long fingers. Vincent barely noticed.

Daily Prompt: tear

From Protector of the Grey House:

Natalia stood carefully in his hold. Though it was not always easy to read her lover, she saw in his eyes what he wanted. Vincent wanted to change her; she was not ready. Natalia knew she couldn’t fight him without a weapon. The closest thing to a weapon within reach was the hairdryer, which sat on the counter, cord wrapped around the nozzle. It was hefty enough, but she knew she wouldn’t be able to knock him out with it. Natalia groaned and leaned into her vampire as his hand ran down her side and he growled into her neck. Her breath caught as she realized she almost wanted him to do it.

Her hand found his hair, tangled in the short soft mane. “Vincent. Please.

Her voice was so torn by desire; neither knew what she asked. Vincent pulled away gently, as his desire gripped him to the breaking point. He turned her around and tipped her head up to look into her fiery eyes. Her lower lip quivered. With a shaky hand, he reached into her hair and started to pull out her bobby pins. Her hair fell softly over her shoulders. He moved very slowly, to tame the raging beast that threatened to tear out her jugular.

Daily Prompt: means

From Protector of the Grey House:

“Diana.” Her name was an order. She woke completely, sat up by herself, and leaned on her arms to stay upright. Vincent held her arms anyway, squeezing her triceps lightly. “What were you doing with Natalia in my bathroom the day we left?”

“A spell. I was trying to connect our wills to make it easier to heal her. But it didn’t work.”

He gripped her tighter but loosened his hold when she winced. “How do you know?”

“It connects us loosely. I should be able to feel her presence. But once I left the two of you, I felt the spell release.”

Vincent released her completely, closed his eyes, took a large breath, and let it out slowly. “We drank each other’s blood when you left. Would that cause the spell to transfer to us?”

She started to shake her head and stopped. Her hand went to her mouth as she stared wide-eyed in surprise. “Only if one of you has the ability to cast spells. Lilly suspects Natalia might.”

“So the feeling I have that she’s hurt…”

“Probably means she is.” Her voice was soft but panicked.

The vampire stood. “Get dressed. We leave soon, and you’ll be needed.”

Daily Prompt: answer

From Protector of the Grey House:

A thought tried to assert itself into his mind, but thoughts became impossible as she kissed and nibbled his chest. “Yes.” His hands found her silky hair. “If you think we can do this, yes, we’re done.” He growled, and showed her his fangs. “Have you been fed off lately?”

She smiled, as they both knew the answer. Natalia gave him an innocent smile. She knew he wouldn’t take her blood until she told him he could. A feeling of power overcame her, and she wondered just how far she could push him.

Vincent saw her expression change from one of innocence to one of dominance and understood her mood. He knew he could easily take control from her, but instead he relinquished control, and let her lead him however she pleased. She led him to the bedroom, and teased him all the way to the bed. He begged for many hours before she allowed him to drink from her.

Daily Prompt: model

From Protector of the Grey House:

Vincent felt a presence beside him and turned to address the creature who smiled at him. “Good evening Torin. How can I help you?”

“I was wondering why Edwin’s greatest rival would be at a Red Tie Affair? You normally stay away from these.” Torin was dressed in his usual attire: jeans, red button down shirt open over a black t-shirt and black and red wingtip shoes. He looked much like a male model. It was one of the ways he drew women to him.

“Actually, I usually destroy these parties.” Vincent kept his voice low, as others were near. He turned his head to regard the demon. “Why are you here, Torin? I thought you stayed away from these.”

“As you said, you usually destroy these parties, and word on the street is, you’re planning something interesting.”

Vincent stayed silent.

Daily Prompt: glowered

From Protector of the Grey House:

Vincent stepped forward seemingly to protect Natalia. He didn’t like the look Kari gave his lover. The daggers Kari’s eyes threw at Natalia made him understand Natalia’s reluctance to speak in front of Kari.

“I wish to speak with my top people first, and Natalia understands this.” He looked at Julia, Kari and Markus. “Leave us. Go feed. We’ll bring you up to date if necessary.”

Kari shrank back into herself but glowered at the human. She opened her mouth to speak but the room’s double doors opened loudly and stopped her. Joseph strolled in to usher out the younger vampires. Vincent led the way to his study, where he could speak privately with Anthony and Natalia in relative comfort.

Daily Prompt: dismissed

From Protector of the Grey House:

“Dismissed.” She threw the order over her shoulder. When her pack didn’t move, she turned around, stared down her people, growled and repeated her simple order. “Dismissed!”

Orlando and Doug left the room. As Natalia’s guardian, Charlie stayed. Rebecca nodded at his decision then turned to the vampires. She wanted to get as many people out as she could. Most did not need to see this spectacle. Mierka and Joseph were unavailable to give orders, therefore she looked to the only other authority figure in the room. She caught Anthony’s eye, indicated the rest of the room, and looked toward the door. She didn’t want to be vocal about it, as it was not her place. She silently thanked him when he understood quickly and ordered the others out. There was no hesitation with the vampires. They knew what could happen if they didn’t listen to orders. Most respected Anthony and followed his orders as if Vincent gave them.

Once the room was clear, Anthony joined Rebecca. “I’ll take over the security room. No one sees any of this.”
